A downloadable game

# WARNING

Heres a fixed version of all 4 builds (linux, mac, windows, and html) https://gofile.io/?c=0Bciyo

99% of the data for this game was in a data directory containing json files which for some reason did not export. This is the first time I've ever actually used the export function in godot so I didn't know you had to manually tell it to include files that aren't explicitly godot resources :/

I can't upload a fix for this because of the judging period, so I guess I'm just screwed. You won't get any random events in game, which is the whole point of the game. You will get random battles when moving on the map, but that's it. Sorry.

Made for the Text Only Game jam.

Sorry that there's no dragons, I guess I didn't read the front page very carefully. I thought the theme was just text only.

You lead a barbarian tribe in the 4th century AD to likely famine and disease. Set during the exciting period of the decline of the western roman empire.

I wanted to do wayyyy more, so it's in a rough state, but I hope you at least find something enjoyable about it.

No real assets used besides open source fonts.

All the music and sound effects were composed by myself in Ableton Live. I was going for a kind of Age of Empires feel.

I've uploaded a web build here, but be warned I have not tried it at all. I'd recommend the mac, linux, or windows download.

If you like the music, you can download it or listen at: https://soundcloud.com/marblecake-1/4th-century-ad

Watch Text Only Jam (8 Bits to Infinity) Feedback Part 2/2 from MrJoshuaMcLean on www.twitch.tv

Yeah, to anyone that had any problems, that was because when I exported it I didn’t know Godot wouldn’t include my json files by default which contained all the actual content.

Here’s a link to the fixed version: https://gofile.io/?c=0Bciyo

There’s new builds for all platforms there that you can use instead. I can’t update the build here during the judging.

Unfortunately I was unable to grasp your game. It took me a while to notice that much of the text was entirely off of my screen, and even expanding it and dragging the window off my monitor didn't help too much. I'm sorry about your problems with exporting from Godot - I had some too, especially with the web build. I do think your use of historical events for a base for your game is very admirable though. If you would like to check out my game (probably not the web version unless you get lucky, haha) and provide feedback, I would greatly appreciate it :)

You could provide the json file by other means for us to try? Or make a new build and message Joshua to update your entry. Pretty sure that is no problem.

The content that is there, on my screen, it falls off. Text is way too large and requires a lot of scrolling/offscreen things.

Sorry, I just learned this filesystem issue actually had nothing to do with html5, the exporter for godot just didn’t include by data directory containing json at all.

So it’s basically unusable now, sorry.

I’ll upload a fixed version after the jam but I obviously can’t fix it during judging.

I removed the web build cause it was glitchy. I need to learn how to use the filesystem in web builds in Godot.

When I try to run the web build, all I get is an error saying "abort(114). Build with -s ASSERTIONS=1 for more info."

Yeah I’ve never tried the web builds with Godot before, could you try the Windows one?

For what its worth the web build does run ok for me, but the aspect ratio is weird in html so I’d still heavily recommend the desktop build.

Yeah there’s a lot of weird stuff about how file loading works in Godot in the browser too it seems. I’d recommend desktop.
